Meløy

Meløy is located in the northern part of the region Helgeland. Surrounded by 700 islands this is one of the most beautiful coastal parts of Norway. You will find 30 mountain tops higher than 1000 meter above sea level. This is truly a great landscape full of contrasts. The highest mountain is Mt. Skjelåtinden (1637 meters) and Mt. Helgelandsbukken is perhaps the most well known. You can see the mountain far away from the sea and it is a well known landmark. Mt. Helgelandsbukken is located on the south side of the fjord Holandsfjorden and is to be seen on both sides of the glacier Svartisen (from Rv17 Meløy county covers an area of 871 km2, and the 7000 inhabitants has lots of space to themselves, and for those who come to visit.

The landscape in Meløy changes from the islands in the west to mountain tops in the east. All within a short distance.
